Calculation of Paid Premium Days

cott-group-semsiyeThe Employer Practice Official SSI Communiqué specifies the default calculation of Premium days as 30 in a calendar month. Regardless of the actual days of the month, employers are required to declare worked days as 30. Effectively, when the total days of the month are 28, 29 or 31, worked days must be entered into the system as 30.

When an employee is transferred to a different workplace of the same employer, or the employer workplace is transferred to a different SSI center, the worked days declaration is to be made as 30 days provided that employment is uninterrupted. The 30 days rule tends to create confusion especially in the month of February. However, employers are advised to apply the rule in all cases where employment is uninterrupted and continuous.

Restructed Payment Options for General Health Insurance Coverage

Application deadline for debt restructuring of General Health Insurance premiums in accordance with Law No.6552 is April 30th, 2015.

General Health Insurance (GHI) premiums are accrued from the maximum rate to those who have not applied to an income test. However, provided that they fulfill their income test obligation until March 31st, 2015, they will be allowed to pay their premium debts based on the amount from their income tests applicable from the date of GHI registration.

Those, who are ranked within the lower income group according to the income tests, will benefit from complete cancellation of accrued premium debts and will also receive health service by means of the allowance to be reserved from the Treasury.

Activation Procedure for the General Health Insurance Coverage in Türkiye

Under the social security legislation in Türkiye, employees need to apply to the relevant social security institution where their workplace is registered in order to activate their health insurance. Otherwise, they will have to pay for the services received at health institutions. In order to prevent such an undesirable outcome, new as well as terminated employees whose insurance has been deactivated can activate or reactivate their general health insurance online. Foreign employees working with a valid work permit, on the other hand, will have to activate their health coverage by applying in person to the SSI institution where their employer is registered. Otherwise, they will not benefit from health services as an insured employee despite the fact their coverage is paid by their employer.
